NEW ORLEANS — It has become a yearly tradition for members of the LSU women’s golf team to caddy and walk with PGA players on pro-am day of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
In the past they have carried bags for players such as Vijay Singh, Lee Westwood and comedian Bill Murray.
Wednesday at the TPC of Louisiana, it was a star-studded group of players that LSU women’s golf team spent the day with.
Among the professionals were defending champion Jerry Kelly, former Zurich Classic champion and LSU All-American David Toms, Ben Crane and Sergio Garcia. The Lady Tigers also carried bags and walked with Archie and Eli Manning and members of the sponsoring Zurich Financial Services group who were playing in the event.
The pros even let the Lady Tigers get into the act as Kelly and his group had caddy Jacqueline Hedwall drive the ball off 16 tee and reports from the course are she laced one down the middle of the fairway.
Also involved along with Hedwall and coaches Karen Bahnsen and Golda Borst were Megan McChrystal, Abby Oberthier and Nicole Crochet.
“The girls had a great time,” said Bahnsen. “We all did. The girls were able to visit with the pros and they took the time to answer their questions and visit with them. It was a great day for us to be out there and it was fun but it was also a learning experience for the girls at the same time.”
