BATON ROUGE – After returning to the national rankings in the Golfstat Top 25 and Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index this past weekend, the LSU men’s golf team is also ranked among the Top 25 teams in the country at No. 23 in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Top 25 released on Wednesday.
The Tigers are rated No. 23 in the Golfstat Top 25 released March 31 and No. 24 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index released Sunday night.
LSU’s ascent into the national rankings comes on the heels of its third tournament victory of the season at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C, on March 30 where the team fired its second-lowest tournament score of the season at 7-under par 845.
In the month of March, the Tigers also picked up a runner-up finish at the John Hayt Invitational in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., on March 2 and a win at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette on March 9. LSU has won a total of three tournament titles on the season, which also includes a victory on its home turf at the David Toms Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge on Oct. 27.
The Tigers will kick off the postseason next weekend as they travel to St. Simons Island, Ga., to tee off in the 2010 SEC Men’s Golf Championships being held at Sea Island Golf Club from April 16-18.
