Mondo Remains on The Bowerman Watch List

Baton Rouge, La. Mondo Duplantis was named to The Bowerman Watch List for the seventh straight time on Thursday afternoon.

His latest and greatest feat as a collegiate competitor came last weekend at the SEC Championships. The freshman from Lafayette, La., cleared a collegiate record setting bar of 19′ 8.25” (6.00 meters) in the pole vault to secure 10 points and help lead the LSU men to their 23rd SEC outdoor title in program history. Duplantis broke the meet and facility record with a clearance of 19′ 0.75” (5.81 meters) and then his collegiate best of 19′ 8.25” bettered Lawrence Johnson’s previous collegiate record of 19′ 7.50” that he set while competing for Tennessee in 1996.

Mondo has competed eight times for the Tigers this season and has been victorious every single time. A full list of his heights this season can be viewed at tfrrs.org. With his latest clearance of 6.00 meters (19′ 8.25”), he became only the 10th man in world history to clear 6-plus meters outdoors twice in a career. The only time he has gone higher was his U20 world record that he set last August at the European Championships; he cleared 6.05 meters (19′ 10.25”) to win the Euro title.
