Women's Tennis Headed to UCLA Regional
BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team will travel to Los Angeles to compete in the first round of the NCAA Team Championships on Saturday, May 4, at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Tigers (16-11) will face off against San Diego (17-4) in the first round of the UCLA Regional starting at 11 a.m. CT (9 a.m. local).
“We are thrilled to be back in the NCAA field for the sixth straight year,” co-head coach Michael Sell said. “Our team is excited to compete again and we are ready to tackle the tough UCLA region.”
This is the sixth-consecutive season the Tigers have qualified for the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the second round twice in the past four seasons. Last year, LSU fell to Tulsa in the first round by a score of 4-2. Senior Kennan Johnson and sophomore Luba Vasilyuk earned LSU’s two points with straight set victories in singles play.
Winners of all 16 regional sites will advance to a single-elimination Super Regional to be held May 10 or 11. The eight Super Regional winners advance to the to the NCAA quarterfinal round to be held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, on May 17-19.
