Softball Travels to Baylor for Three-Game Series

BATON ROUGE- The No. 10/7 LSU softball team (38-11, 14-7 SEC) continues its break from SEC action by traveling to Baylor (17-27, 2-14 Big12) Friday and Saturday for a three game series.

Friday’s game will be at 6:30 p.m. and will air on FOX Sports Southwest Plus and the FOX Sports Go app. Saturday’s games will be at 5 and 7:30 p.m. and will stream live on Baylor Softball’s Facebook Page. Click here.

About the Tigers
The Tigers have seven players that are hitting better than .300 this season with Amanda Sanchez leading the way with a .425 average and a team-high 16 doubles and 50 RBI. Aliyah Andrews is right behing with a .406 average.

Shemiah Sanchez lead the Tigers with 16 home runs which is two away from tying the single-season home run record. The Tigers have hit 64 on the year, which is one away from tying the single-season record as a team.

In the circle, Shelby Wickersham (10-1), Shelbi Sunseri (10-5) and Maribeth Gorsuch (11-2) are combined for a 31-8 record in the circle. As a staff, the Tigers have a 2.46 ERA and are holding their opponents to a .208 average.

Series Record Against…
The Tigers own a 6-0 record against the Bears since the 1997 season. Last season, the two teams met and the Tigers came out on top 5-3 over the No. 13 ranked Bears in eight innings. Amanda Doyle hit a two-run home run to claim the win, one of 12 walk-off wins on the year and one of five for Doyle. The last time the Tigers were in Waco was for the 2004 NCAA Regionals. The Tigers downed Baylor 7-3 in 10 innings to advance to the Regional Championship.

Scouting the Opposition
Baylor
Baylor is hitting .247 as a team on the year with Nicky Dawson leading the way with a .348 average. She is 11-for-13 in stolen bases and has scored 22 runs. Goose McGlaun is close behind with a .342 average and three home runs.

In the circle, the Bears are giving up 4.36 earned runs a game. They are holding their opponents to  a .296 average. Sidney Holman has seen the most action. In 156.1 innings of work, she has struck out 116. She owns two combined shutouts and two saves for a 10-17 record.

What’s On Deck
The Tigers will finish up the regular season and celebrate the 2019 Senior Class next weekend with a three-game series with Alabama.
