Tigers Drop Game Two at Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 9/6 LSU Softball team dropped game two of the three-game series with No. 19/25 Arkansas, 11-1 in five innings, on Friday evening at Bogle Park. The Tigers are now 36-11 on the year and 13-7 in the SEC.
The Tigers got on the board first as Aliyah Andrews singled, advanced to second on a ground out by Amanda Sanchez and scored on a hard hit ball to the pitcher by Shelbi Sunseri, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Arkansas answered in the bottom half of the first with a two-run home run to right center, taking a 2-1 lead. The Razorbacks extended their lead to 3-1 after a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. Two more runs came across and the Tigers went to the bullpen, bringing in Sunseri to replace Maribeth Gorsuch. Two runs were plated before Sunseri got the Tigers out of the inning with Arkansas leading, 7-1.
In the bottom of the third, Arkansas scored four runs to take an 11-1 lead. The Tigers brought in Kara Goff and she got the Tigers out of the inning.
The Tigers threatened in the top of the fourth. Michaela Schlattman reached on a throwing error, but was out at second on a fielder’s choice by Amber Serrett. Taryn Antoine walked, advancing Serrett to second, but a ground ball ended the threat for the Tigers.
Maribeth Gorsuch takes the loss for the Tigers, dropping to 10-2 on the year. She allowed seven runs off four hits in two-thirds of an inning. Sunseri allowed four runs on six hits, while striking out two.
The Tigers will face Arkansas for game three Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. The game will air live on ESPNU and stream on the WatchESPN app. Jenn Hildreth and Jenny Dalton-Hill on the call.
