BATON ROUGE – Junior Paris Corley earned her 11th win of the dual season and 19th overall as the LSU women’s tennis team fell to No. 16 Texas A&M by a score of 4-1 on Friday at the LSU Tennis Complex.
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 14-9 on the season and 4-7 in SEC play.
Selling Points
“There were a lot of momentum shifts and lots of ups and downs,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “Credit to Texas A&M, they had a good balance of knowing when to hit it hard and when to hit it soft. We still believe in this team; we’re just not executing in areas we need to be. We just need to keep working.”
Doubles Point
The Aggies earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3.
The pair of Tatiana Makarova and Jayci Goldsmith defeated the No. 10-ranked duo of sophomore Eden Richardson and senior Jessica Golovin, 6-4, at the No. 1 doubles.
Corley and freshman Anna Loughlan got one back for the Tigers at the No. 2 doubles when they defeated the No. 84-ranked pair of Renee McBryde and Katya Townsend by a score of 6-4.
Texas A&M clinched the doubles point with a win from Riley McQuaid and Lucia Quiterio at the No. 3 doubles over senior Kennan Johnson and sophomore Taylor Bridges.
Singles Results
Texas A&M earned the first singles point of the match at the No. 5 singles when McBryde defeated Johnson in the first set 6-3, before Johnson retired due to illness.
The Aggies lead extended to 3-0 after No. 66 Goldsmith defeated No. 53 Golovin 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 2 singles.
Corley earned LSU its lone point of the night at the No. 4 singles, where she defeated McQuaid in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. With the win, Corley is now 11-5 in the dual season and 19-8 overall.
Texas A&M clinched the match when Quiterio defeated Loughlan 7-6(3), 6-2, at the No. 6 singles.
Next Up
The No. 28 Tigers will finish the regular season with a road weekend, taking on No. 46 Ole Miss at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, April 12, and then facing Mississippi State at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, April 14.
