LSU Beach in Top-10 for 30th Straight Poll

BATON ROUGE– Ever since the LSU Beach Volleyball (17-5) team entered the AVCA Top-10 on April 25, 2016, it has maintained a top-10 ranking for 30 consecutive polls.

With wins over four Top-20 teams in Miami over the weekend, including two over Top-10 teams, the Tigers maintained their No. 4 ranking in the AVCA and DiG rankings for the fourth straight week.

In Miami, the Tigers took down No. 10 Stetson, No. 8 Florida International, No. 16 Grand Canyon and No. 15 Florida Atlantic. With 12 wins over ranked teams, including seven over Top-10 competition, LSU is setting itself up nicely for a third consecutive appearance as one of the final eight teams in Gulf Shores at the NCAA Championship.

It was a critical weekend for LSU in that it was the only time during the regular that the Tigers would face either Stetson or FIU. Getting victories over both of those teams means that LSU has secured at least one victory over every team from the east region that it has played this season thus far which could prove to be vital come selection Sunday on April 28.

LSU has held the No. 4 spot in the rankings for the past month, the three teams ahead of them holding their spots firmly throughout that time. Of LSU’s five losses on the season, four of them have come to either No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 USC or No. 3 Florida State. The Tigers split their only two matches of the regular season against Florida State, though the two teams could potentially meet again later this month, April 19-21, at the CCSA Tournament.

The only other team LSU has fallen to this year is another team that it has split two matches with in South Carolina, who was ranked in the Top-10 both times the teams squared off. LSU can settle the tie this Saturday when the Tigers and Gamecocks meet at the LSU Beach Invitational. The Tigers and Gamecocks could also potentially meet at the CCSA Tournament.

On top of facing South Carolina this weekend, April 6-7, LSU will also matchup with Texas A&M – Kingsville, TCU and Houston Baptist. Cox Sports Television will broadcast LSU’s matches against TAMUK and South Carolina on Saturday.

The Tigers will finish off the regular season next Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, with the Battle on the Bayou before heading to Emerson, Georgia for the CCSA Tournament.
