No. 23 Women's Tennis Team Drops Match to No. 4 South Carolina 4-0

BATON ROUGE – The No. 23 LSU women’s tennis team fell to the No. 4-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks by a score of 4-0 on Sunday at the LSU Tennis Complex.

 

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 14-8 on the season and 4-6 in SEC play.

 

Selling Points

“We have fallen into the trap where we are more than capable of beating these teams but after losing a few tight matches, we have gotten tentative and negative,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “Moving forward we have to handle adversity with positive emotion.”

 

Doubles Point

The Gamecocks took the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

 

Rachel Rohrabacher and Paige Cline struck first at the No. 2 doubles with a 6-2 victory over freshman Anna Loughlan and junior Paris Corley.

 

South Carolina clinched the doubles point when Kennedy Wicker and Megan Davies defeated the pair of senior Kennan Johnson and sophomore Taylor Bridges.

 

Singles Results

No. 7-ranked Ingrid Martins earned the Gamecocks their first singles point of the match when she defeated No. 10-ranked sophomore Eden Richardson 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 singles.

 

South Carolina’s lead extended to 3-0 when No. 118 Mia Horvit was victorious at the No. 3 singles, defeating Bridges 6-2, 6-2.

 

Silvia Chinellato clinched the match for the Gamecocks with a 6-4, 6-4, victory over Johnson at the No. 5 singles.

The No. 23 Tigers host their final regular season home match against No. 11 Texas A&M at 4 p.m. CT on Friday, April 5.
