Austin, Texas Jake Norris‘ bronze finish in the hammer throw highlighted day one of the Texas Relays for the LSU track and field program at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.

The 2018 world U20 champion and bronze medalist at the NCAA meet in the hammer throw, Norris opened up his 2019 campaign with a third-place finish with a toss of 70.00 meters (229′ 8”). Daniel Roberts, a professional, won the event with a mark of 71.84 meters (235′ 8”). The mark of 70.00 meters for Norris ranks fourth in the nation.

In the javelin throw, LSU had a pair of athletes pick up fifth-place finishes. On the women’s side, sophomore Noel Baker registered a career-best heave of 46.99 meters (154′ 2”), and Andre Girouard threw the javelin 64.11 meters (210′ 4”) for the men’s squad.

LSU’s only qualifier to Friday’s final of the 400 meter hurdles was Jurnee Woodward. The sophomore from California clocked a time of 58.86 to advance to the finals on Friday evening. A full competition schedule for Friday is listed below.
