Tigers Send Four To NCAA Men's S&D Championships
BATON ROUGE – Four LSU men’s swimmers and divers are making the trip to Austin, Texas to take part in the 2019 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships this week. The meet will begin Wednesday, March 27 and will conclude on Saturday, March 30.
IN THE POOL
Karl Luht will be competing in the pool for the Tigers. The junior is set to compete in the 100-Yard Backstroke on Friday and the 100-Yard Freestyle on Saturday.
Last time out at the 2019 SEC Championships, Luht won the ‘B’ Final in the 100-Yard Backstroke after setting a new LSU record with a time of 45.58. He then made the ‘C’ Final in the 100-Yard Freestyle and finished in 22ndplace.
ON THE BOARDS
Juan Celaya-Hernandez, Matt McClellan, and Matthew Phillip will be competing on the boards for the Tigers. Celaya-Hernandez will be competing on both springboard events as well as the platform, McClellan will compete on both springboard events, and Phillip will compete on the three-meter springboard and the platform.
Celaya-Hernandez and McClellan qualified for the one-meter by diving to scores of 803.10 and 709.70 at the 2019 NCAA Zone D Regionals. Those scores were good for first and sixth, respectively.
Celaya-Hernandez, Phillip, and McClellan qualified for the three-meter by finishing in second, tenth, and 11thoverall. Celaya-Hernandez dove to a score of 865.40, Phillip a 694.10, and McClellan a 692.95.
On platform, Phillip and Celaya-Hernandez qualified for platform after diving to scores of 701.25 and 653.95 to finish in second and seventh, respectively.
