Four To Compete At NCAA Women's Championships

BATON ROUGE – Four LSU women’s swimmers and divers are making the trip to Austin, Texas to take part in the 2019 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships this week. The meet will begin Wednesday, March 20 and will conclude on Saturday, March 23.

IN THE POOL

Summer Spradley and Haylee Knight will be competing in the pool for the Tigers.  Spradley will swim both the 100 and 200-Yard Breaststroke and Knight will be competing in the 100-Yard Butterfly as well as the 50 and 100-Yard Freestyle.  

At the SEC Championships, Spradley swam the second-fastest time in school history in the 100-Yard Breaststroke, a 59.24, to qualify for the ‘A’ Final.  She would go on to finish fourth in the event.  The senior from Granite Bay, California, went on to finish 11thin the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:10.03.

Also at the SEC Championships, Knight set a new school record in the 100-Yard Butterfly with a time of 51.71 to finish in fifth place in the ‘A’ Final.  The senior from Hanover, Massachusetts, finished in a tie for ninth in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 22.27 and eighth in the ‘A’ Final of the 100-Yard Freestyle with a time of 48.32.

ON THE BOARDS

Lizzie Cui and Aimee Wilson will compete for the Tigers in the diving well. Cui, a senior from New Zealand, will compete on both the one and three-meter springboards.  Wilson, a freshman from Canada competing in her first NCAA Championships, will compete on both springboards as well as the platform.  

Last week at the 2019 NCAA Zone D Diving Regionals, Cui qualified for the three-meter event by finishing in seventh place with a score of 681.40 and in the one-meter competition by finishing in fourth place with a score of 613.25.

Wilson qualified for the three-meter by placing 12thwith a score of 659.70 and the one-meter by finishing in 10thplace with a score of 574.10.  On the platform, Wilson finished in fifth place with a score of 543.60 to earn the right to dive at the NCAA Championships.
