LSU Still In 5th Place After Second Round Of DRI

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The LSU women’s golf team continued its steady play on Saturday to stay in fifth place at the 2019 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. The Tigers shot a 9-over 293 in the second round at the Long Cove Club, led by junior Monica Dibildox and sophomore Kendall Griffin with matching 1-over 72 rounds.

“We had another solid round today,” said LSU head coach Garrett Runion. “We had a good pairing with two good teams in Duke and Furman. With this tournament so close to their schools they had a lot of spectators following them today and our players handled the gallery very well.”

LSU has played two of its lowest rounds of the season at the Darius Rucker. Yesterday, the Tigers tied their season low with a 290 and shot the fifth-lowest round of the season today with the 293. It is the third time this season that LSU has shot back-to-back rounds in a tournament under 295, having done so in the Fall at the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship in September and the Magnolia Invitational in October.

Dibildox, the No. 98-ranked player in the nation, is in a tie for seventh place in the individual standings at even 142. Griffin is currently in a tie for 13th place, moving up seven spots from first round action at 2-over 144.

Rookies Alden Wallace and Presley Baggett added to the team scoring in the second round as senior Kathleen Gallagher battles through playing under the weather this weekend. Baggett moved up five spots in the individual standings to a tied for 39th at 6-over 148 after shooting a 2-over 73, while Wallace currently sits in a tie for 43rd at 7-over 149 after shooting a 5-over today.

“We have a great opportunity to go out tomorrow and play a final round near the lead with a bunch of teams trying to chase us down,” continued Runion. “I’m looking forward to having us compete and finish off this tournament on a high note.”

LSU will be paired up with No. 10 South Carolina and No. 23 Furman for Round 3 on Sunday. The Tigers will tee off at 7:50 a.m. CT from Hole No. 1. No. 19 Florida State is in the lead at 3-under 565, the only team in the field shooting under par. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
