Smart Earns Freshman Honor From SEC

BATON ROUGE – LSU basketball’s Javonte Smart earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors it was announced by the league office on Monday morning.

Smart averaged 18 points, four rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in LSU wins over Texas A&M last Tuesday at home and Saturday at Tuscaloosa against Alabama.

Smart started the week with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals against Texas A&M. He followed that up with 19 points, four assists and two steals at Alabama. He moved to the starting lineup in the last three games with Tremont Waters out for two games and returning off the bench at Alabama.

The Baton Rouge freshman raised his scoring average from 10.2 points to 11.4 over the course of the last three games.

The Tigers travel to Florida on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game with the Gators (LSU Sports Radio Network, ESPN2).
