No. 12 Tigers Defeat Auburn 4-1
BATON ROUGE – The No. 12 LSU women’s tennis team completed its weekend with a 4-1 victory over the Auburn Tigers on Sunday, March 3, at the LSU Tennis Complex.
“I’m really proud of the girls for pulling through there,” LSU co-head coach Julia Sell said. “I thought that was a real battle from start to finish. It was the kind of match that had a lot of momentum shifts, up and down. I’m proud of them for finishing and competing. I still think we can play better, and that’s where we need to get ourselves to for next weekend.”
The Tigers took the doubles point against Auburn with two wins from the No. 3 and No. 1 pairs.
Golovin extended the lead to 2-0 following a 6-4, 6-1 straight-set victory over Madeline Meredith at the No. 2 singles spot.
Sophomore Luba Vasilyuk‘s (6-4, 6-4) win on court six over Yu Chen extended LSU’s lead to 3-1.
No. 15 Richardson came from behind in the No. 1 singles match to defeat No. 75 Jaeda Daniel. After dropping the first set 1-6, Richardson rebounded and won the final two sets by tallies of 6-4 and 6-4.
The No. 12 Tigers will face Georgia on Friday, March 8, at 3 P.M. CT in their first SEC road match of the year
