Martingayle Re-Elected as SEC SAAC Vice Chair

Baton Rouge, La. – For the second straight year, LSU men’s cross country student-athlete Harrison Martingayle has been elected as the Vice Chair of the Southeastern Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Martingayle will serve his second stint as the Vice Chair, and Jake Gibbons of Texas A&M (swimming & diving), will be serving as the Chair. Both Martingayle and Gibbons were selected by their peers at the SEC SAAC meeting held last weekend in Birmingham.

“I am very honored to be appointed for a second-consecutive year,” Martingayle said. “I am grateful that my peers have enough confidence in my ability to effectively communicate the best interests of all student-athletes within the SEC in a variety of settings to allow me to serve again.”

Martingayle, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., just wrapped up his junior season on the cross country circuit. He represented the Tigers at all six meets and was the top LSU finisher at the LSU Invitational with a four-mile time of 20:45.70 to place fifth.

“I’m looking forward specifically to the continued discussions around diversity and inclusion, which also deals with the destigmatization of mental health as a subject,” noted Martingayle. “I believe the SEC can continue to be on the forefront of progress in these areas. Each member of the conference is valuable and has a voice. I look forward to continuing the discussion regarding how we can improve the overall athletic experience for all student-athletes.”

Martingayle owns a 3.809 GPA and is majoring in sports administration to go along with minors in business and Spanish. A multiple-time SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree, Martingayle also serves as the SEC’s representative on the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The purpose of the SEC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to provide student-athletes with additional opportunities to engage with campus leaders and conference office staff. The committee serves as a conduit of communication to the conference office on issues related to student-athlete experience and student-athlete wellness.
