Softball to Host LSU Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 9/7 LSU softball team returns home this weekend to host the LSU Invitational, welcoming in Stanford, Memphis, Cal State Northridge and RV Michigan. The Tigers open the weekend with Stanford on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT.

All five of LSU’s games this weekend will be streamed online through SEC Network+ and WatchESPN with Lyn Rollins and Yvette Girouard calling four of the five games this weekend. 

The Tigers come into the weekend with a 9-2 record after going 3-2 at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational last weekend. The Tiger claimed Top 25 wins over Oklahoma State, Texas and Ohio State. Amanda Sanchez led the Tigers on the weekend with a .462 batting average. She hit her first home run as an LSU Tiger against No. 11 Texas, giving the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.

Scouting the Opposition
Stanford
The Card come into the LSU Invitational with a 6-2 overall record. Under the direction of head coach Jessica Allister, the Card this season has delivered 19 two-out RBI, is 5-for-6 with bases loaded and leads the PAC-12 in triples with five. Stanford has posted five or more runs in all but three games this season. The Card is picked eighth in the PAC-12 this season.   

Memphis
Memphis comes into the weekend with a 5-4 record. Baylee Smith is currently leading the team with a .500 batting average. She has tallied 12 RBI off 14 hits, including five doubles, two triples and a home run. In the circle, Memphis has used five pitchers on the year. Mariah Nichols leads the staff with a 2.62 ERA. In 24 innings of work, she has struck out 14.  

Michigan
Michigan, coached by the winningest coach in NCAA softball history, is 4-5 on the year. Natalia Rodriguez is leading the team with a .429 average at the plate. Katie Alexander has a team-leading 11 RBI and a .652 slugging percentage. In a pitching staff of three, Sarah Schaefer leads the team in ERA with a 1.24 mark, but Alex Storako and Meghan Beaubien have seen the most innings, 26.1 and 28.0 respectively. Beaubien has struck out 34 in eight appearances.   

CSUN
CSUN comes into the weekend with a 3-5 record. Megan Stevens leads the squad with a .522 average with seven doubles, a triple, two home runs, a team-leading 10 RBI, 27 total bases and a 1.147 slugging percentage. In the circle, the Matadors have used six pitchers thus far into the season. Jillian James has seen the most action, striking out 31 in 21.1 innings of work.   

What’s On Deck
The Tigers will host their first midweek matchup on February 26, welcoming in Kent State to Tiger Park. The Tigers will take on Kent State at 6 p.m. CT, on SECN+.
