Gymnastics Shatters Attendance Record

BATON ROUGE – The LSU gymnastics team set multiple records in 2018, including a new average attendance record of 12,009 to finish first in the Southeastern Conference and second in the national attendance rankings for the first time in school history.

The program averaged more than 10,000 fans per meet for the second time in school history. The average mark overtook the previous record of 10,050 set a year ago. Last year was the first time LSU finished above Georgia in average attendance, and this year the program overtook Alabama for the second spot in the nation and best in the Southeastern Conference.

More than 10,000 fans attended every meet this season. The six meets of 10,000 or more doubled the previous record set of three in 2016 and 2017. Five of LSU’s six meets ranked in the top-10 of the best gymnastics attendance figures in Maravich Center history. LSU’s season-opener record crowd of 10,755 against Arkansas also finished 11th on the list.

LSU sold out back-to-back meets for the first time in school history in wins over Alabama and Kentucky. Tiger fans set the single meet record against the Crimson Tide when 13,729 packed the PMAC. Against the Wildcats, LSU once again eclipsed the 13,000 mark with 13,185 inside the Maravich Center for the third-largest crowd in school history.

Thanks to the incredible fan support, LSU finished the season with a perfect 6-0 record for the fifth-straight unbeaten season and 19th in school history. The Tigers own a 34-0 record inside the PMAC since the 2014 season. The senior class of Myia Hambrick, Erin Macadaeg and Lauren Li also finished their careers with a perfect record inside the PMAC.

More than 5,000 season tickets were sold for the 2018 season, which marked a new school record. LSU is now accepting new season ticket requests at LSUtix.net. There will be new tickets opened on the 300 level of the south side of the PMAC for next season. Current season ticket holders will have a chance to renew for the 2019 season later this spring.

LSU will once again host six meets during the regular season next year. For the first time since 2014, the school will host postseason competition in the PMAC as LSU will be one of four to host the new-look NCAA Regional in April 2019.
