Women's Tennis Wraps Up Qualifying Round
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — LSU women’s tennis seniors Jessica Golovin and Kennan Johnson competed in the qualifying round of 64 in singles play in the ITA Women’s All-American tournament on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers faced off against Oracle/ITA ranked opponents to start the singles round.
Golovin, ranked No. 64 in the Oracle/ITA preseason rankings, got off to a promising start against No. 89-ranked Jessica Livianu of St. John winning in straight sets on Tuesday, 6-4, 6-4. Golovin went on to face No. 40 Petra Granic of Texas in the round of 32 and was defeated 6-4, 6-4.
Johnson fell in straight sets to No. 43 Maria Kononva of North Texas in the round of 64, 6-2, 6-2. Johnson’s impressive weekend performances in the pre-qualifying draw earned her the qualifying spot.
LSU will have two Lady Tigers in the main draw of the tournament beginning on Thursday. Sophomore No. 38 Eden Richardson will compete in singles play on the main draw. Golovin will join Richardson in doubles play as the No.7 ranked duo in Oracle/ITA preseason rankings.
