Palin, Coston Lead LSU at Joe Piane Invitational

South Bend, Ind. Julia Palin and Eric Coston were LSU’s top finishers on Friday at 63rd annual Joe Piane Invitational. The women competed in the elite Blue Race and finished 15th with 356 points. The men’s team registered a ninth-place showing (213 points) in the Gold Race.

 

 

No. 11 BYU claimed the women’s team title with 37 points in the Blue Race and Calvin College (80 points) won the Gold Race. Full results can be found at endurancetiming.com.

Women’s Recap

For the third straight meet, freshman Julia Palin was the top finisher for the Lady Tigers. Palin was the seventh fastest freshman in the 5k race, running a time of 17:37.92, earning the 36th place overall in the meet. The trio of Ersula Farrow, Hollie Parker and Katy-Ann McDonald competed for the first time this season at the Joe Piane. Farrow ran a time of 17:57.8 earning her 63rd place in the meet. Following Farrow was Parker (18:08.1/74th place) and McDonald (18:13.33/82nd place). Hannah Bourque crossed the finish line with a time of 18:38.83 earning an overall place of 112th to round out LSU’s scoring efforts.

Men’s Recap

Eric Coston ran a time of 25:09.27 earning him an overall 16th place finish in the meet; it was his first time being the top finisher for the Tigers this season. Adam Wise continued his stellar season running a time of 25:26.86 to place 30th in his first-career collegiate five-mile race. Harrison Martingayle took it out pretty hard and led the field after a mile (4:53.70); he was the third LSU runner to come through the finishing chute with a time of 25:41.04 to place 40th. Thomas Laville (26:27.46) and Hayden Courrege (26:58.09) closed out the meet for the Tigers with 76th and 87th place finishes, respectively.
