Women's Tennis Goes Undefeated In Doubles On Day 1

New Providence, Bahamas — The LSU women’s tennis team went undefeated in its opening doubles matches at the USTA College Invitational at Albany on Friday. 

National champion duo sophomore Eden Richardson and senior Jessica Golovin took down the South Florida pair of Nicole Dzenga and Vanja Klaric, 8-6, to give them their first fall season win. Freshman Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo picked up her first LSU win alongside sophomore Luba Vasilyuk in an 8-4 victory against Evelyne Tiron and Janvhi Clark of South Florida.

Freshman Anna Loughlan also secured her first LSU win alongside senior Kennan Johnson. Loughlan and Johnson won 8-7(4) over NC State’s Anna Rogers and Claudia Wiktorin. Junior

Paris Corley and sophomore Taylor Bridges earned their first season win in an 8-3 match against NC State tandem Liz Norman and Natalia Nikolopolou. 

The Lady Tigers picked up impressive singles wins throughout the day. Loughlan and Figueiredo earned their first singles victories for the team, defeating both of their opponents in straight sets in the opening rounds. 

The women will play doubles in day two of the tournament on Saturday. Doubles play will start at 11 a.m. CST.
