Men's Golf Tied for 10th at Carpet Capital Collegiate

Rocky Face, Ga.  – The LSU men’s golf team shaved four shots off its team total from round one to round two as it scored a 4-over par 292 on Saturday at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. After 36 holes of play at The Farm Golf Club, the Tigers (296-292-588) are in a tie for 10th place alongside Kennesaw State at 12-over par.

Georgia Tech (-20), Tennessee (-20) and Alabama (-18) are the only three teams to have under par scores. Full results from the first two rounds can be found at

Philip Barbaree and Michael Sanders had the low scores of the day for the Tigers with even par 72s. LSU started its round on the back nine and Barbaree birdied the 10th, 11th and 12th holes to start his day. He would go on to add two more birdies during his round that ended up at even par 72. Barbaree’s two-round total of 3-over par 147 has him in a tie for 35th.

Sanders’ day had a little bit of everything in it. He registered the first eagle of his collegiate career on the par 5, 516-yard 15th hole. The native of Davidson, N.C., added five birdies in his round to go along with seven pars, three bogeys and two double bogeys. Sanders is in a tie for 54th at 6-over par (78-72-150).

Trey Winstead is the highest representative on the leaderboard for LSU. His two-day tally of 1-over par 145 (72-73) has him in a six-way tie for 23rd place. Winstead’s 25 pars rank as the fifth most in the 81-player field. During round two, the lefty registered 12 pars, three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey.

Garrett Barber shot a second round score of 3-over par 75; the freshman is in a tie for 66th place at 8-over par 152. Nathan Jeansonne shot a 5-over par 77 for his second round and that has him in a tie for 47th at 5-over par 149 (72-77).

The third and final round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate will begin at 8:27 a.m. CT on Sunday morning. LSU will be paired with Kennesaw State and Chattanooga. Tee times are listed below.

Gagne Wraps Up World Amateur Team Championship

Luis Gagne‘s competition in Ireland wrapped up with a 5-under par 68 on the par 73 O’Meara Course on Saturday. His four-round tally ended up at 10-under par 280 (73-67-72-68) to help him finish in a tie for 34th in the 200-plus player field. The Costa Rica native featured a clean scorecard on Saturday by rolling in five birdies and parring the other 13 holes. His performances helped Costa Rica place tied for 32nd in the tournament that featured over 70 countries.
