Brockmeier Moving On Up

Caroline Brockmeier and the LSU backline have not allowed a goal in the last three matches resulting in a three-match win streak and a 270-minute scoring drought for opponents against LSU. Brockmeier has been called upon to make 11 saves in the last three matches and she has been up to the task. Those 11 saves have resulted in three-consecutive shutouts moving her career total to 17. She currently sits in a tie for No. 2 all-time for most shutouts in program history alongside Megan Kinneman. On Thursday evening against South Alabama, Brockmeier had a season-high six saves in the 1-0 win to move her career total to 190 (fifth-most in LSU history).

Last Time Out

Marlena Cutura‘s goal in the 31st minute of LSU’s match against South Alabama on Thursday night gave the Tigers a 1-0 victory at the South Alabama Soccer Complex. After a cross was sent in by Abbey Newton and South Alabama failed to clear it, Cutura found the ball in her possession just outside the box. Her shot from about 22 yards out beat the leaping keeper of South Alabama and it rattled in off the crossbar in what would prove to be the game winner.

This will be the third matchup in the last three years between the Tigers and the Cardinals. LSU won the inaugural match in 2016 by a tally of 4-0 and followed that up with a 2-0 win last year. Alex Thomas is the only current player on the squad to have scored one of those six goals in series history. She scored the first goal of the game in last season’s match in the eighth minute on a right-footed finish from 10 yards after a cut back with the assist going to Tinaya Alexander.
