Attuso Named COSIDA Academic All-American

Baton Rouge, La. – LSU track and field long jumper Jace Attuso was named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field third team on Thursday. The squad is selected annually by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

“Since his first day on campus, Jace has shown that he has the right attitude and work ethic to excel in his academic work,” John Parham, who serves as an academic advisor at the LSU Academic Center for student-athletes, said. “This has shown through the grades and accolades that he has received so far in his two years at LSU.”

A kinesiology major with a concentration on pre-physical therapy, Attuso has maintained an excellent GPA in the classroom while excelling in the long jump. A rising junior, Attuso owns a career-best long jump of 7.39 meters (24 feet, 3 inches). He garnered a second-place finish in the event at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational with a mark of 7.38 meters (24-2.50). The longest jump of his career came via a windy leap at the 2018 LSU Alumni Gold meet his spring with a bound 7.41 meters (24-3.75). He garnered bronze at the Miami Hurricane Invitational in mid-April with a long jump of 7.39 meters (24-3.00). He racked up a pair of fourth-place finishes in the long jump at the Battle on the Bayou (7.25 meters/23-9.50) and the Pac-12/Big Ten Invitational (7.16 meters/23-6.00).

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
