Tigers in Action at Three Meets This Weekend

Baton Rouge, La. – It’s another busy weekend for the LSU track and field program as 18 current and former athletes will be competing at three different meets this weekend – USATF Championships, Jamaica Junior & Senior Championships, and the Trinidad Championships. A full competition list is listed at the bottom of the release.

USATF Championships | Thursday – Sunday | Live Results | Meet/TV Schedule

The largest contingent will be competing at the 2018 USATF Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, at Drake Stadium. Thirteen athletes with ties to LSU will be competing at the USATF event including 2018 NCAA 100 meter dash champion Aleia Hobbs, 2017 NCAA 100 meter dash champion Mikiah Brisco, 2012 Bowerman award winner Kimberlyn Duncan, four-time NCAA champion Vernon Norwood, two-time NCAA champion Michael Cherry and two-time NCAA champion Quincy Downing. Kortnei Johnson will be the only current Lady Tiger at the USATF meet and she will be competing in the 200 meter dash.

The 2018 NCAA bronze medalist in the 110 meter hurdles, Damion Thomas, will be attempting to qualify for the 2018 IAAF U20 World Championships this week. He’s scheduled to run at 10:55 a.m. CT on Saturday morning in the heats and if he qualifies, he will run in the finals at 6:55 p.m. CT. Six-time All-American, three-time NCAA champion and 2016 Olympic silver medalist Fitzroy Dunkley will be competing in the 400 meter dash. His week begins with heats on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and the finals will be held on Sunday at 6:45 p.m. CT. Renard Howell and current Tiger Jahnoy Thompson will be competing in the 200 meter dash which starts on Saturday 9 a.m. CT.

Zakiya Denoon will be LSU’s representative at the 2018 Trinidad Championships. She will be competing in the 100 and 200 meter dash. Denoon earned two First Team All-America honors in 2018 as a member of the indoor and outdoor 4×400 meter relays. The indoor 4×400 meter relay’s season best of 3:30.85 in which Denoon served as the third leg was the eighth-fastest in program history.
