BATON ROUGE – The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes honored six student-athletes for their academic achievements and community service for the month of June.

Each month, LSU student-athletes are recognized for their academic improvement, dedication and proven ability. In addition, one student-athlete is chosen through LSU’s Student-Athlete Affairs program for their volunteerism and commitment to the community.

Maribeth Gorsuch just finished her second season with the softball team and pitched in 17 of the Tigers’ games. The sophomore interdisciplinary studies major finished the 2018 campaign with a 9-3 record in the circle and a 2.10 ERA in 80 innings of work.

Women’s golf’s Kendall Griffin is a freshman general business major. The Sebring, Florida competed in eight tournaments with a scoring average of 78.0-9 and had two low rounds of 73 on the year.

Freshman right-hander AJ Labas made 13 appearances on the mound and started 10 games for the baseball team in the 2018 campaign. The sport administration major had a 6-2 record and struck out 32 batters.

The construction management major posted the Tigers’ top time of the season in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:40.73) and held the second-best time in the 500-yard freestyle (4:32.86), which he swam at the SEC Championships.

Women’s swimmer Sophia Bisch was selected as the Shaquille O’Neal Life Skills Program Student-Athlete of the Month for her dedication to the community, participating in numerous service events. The junior kinesiology major was named to the SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll for her efforts in the classroom.

For putting forth extra effort in the classroom and community in addition to their rigorous academic and competition schedules, these six student-athletes will have their pictures displayed on the wall in the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes.
