Walljasper, Hoover Earn NFCA All-American Honors

BATON ROUGE – LSU seniors Allie Walljasper and Carley Hoover were named NFCA All-Americans, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.

Walljasper, a second-team at-larger pitcher, finished the season in the circle with a 19-7 record and a 1.17 earned run average, which ranks 15th among the nation. She struck out 143 batters in 191 innings of work. Walljasper allowed 32 unearned runs and posted seven shutouts, two combined shutouts and one save.

She led the Tigers to four-straight Super Regional appearances and finished with nine wins over Top 75 RPI opponents. She did not allow an earned run in eight of her 17 appearances against Top 75 RPI teams and threw three shutouts against the Top 75 with 75 strikeouts in 108.1 innings of work. She finished the regular season with a 1.00 ERA which ranked among the top 10 in the country.

This is the third time Walljasper has earned All-American status in her four-year career as a Tiger, her first second-team honor. Her honor is the 35th All-American honor in program history. Walljasper earned NFCA First Team All-South Region and First Team All-SEC honors earlier this month.

Hoover, a third-team selection at pitcher, finished the year with a 16-7 overall record and a 1.60 earned run average. She led the team in strikeouts with 186 in 161.2 innings of work. She finished the year with a team-leading eight shutouts and two saves. She also held her opponents to a team-low .171 batting average.

The Clemson, S.C. native totaled 16 wins in the regular season, 11 of those coming against Top 75 RPI opponents. She did not allow an earned run in 11 of her 20 appearances against Top 75 teams. Hoover posted six shutouts against the Top 75 with 130 strikeouts in 111.1 innings of work. She also threw a seven-inning no-hitter against Top 75 RPI opponent South Alabama on April 24, her third in her career.

This is the second All-American honor for Hoover, as she was recognized as a third-team selection back in 2015. She earns the 36th All-American honor for the LSU softball program. Hoover earned NFCA First Team All-South Region honors earlier this month.

Walljasper and Hoover are one of the top duos in program history. The two combined for 135 wins (Hoover 71, Walljasper 64) and 1188 strikeouts (Hoover 754, Walljasper 434) in their careers. The two registered 43 shutouts and finished their careers with a combined ERA of 1.65.

The 2018 season ended for the Tigers in the Tallahassee Super Regional last weekend. LSU finished the year with a 45-17 overall record and a 35-4 record in Tiger Park, the second-most home wins in program history.
