Golovin, Richardson Advance to Round of 16
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The LSU women’s tennis team’s 29th-ranked duo of Jessica Golovin and Eden Richardson advanced to the NCAA Division I Women’s Doubles Championships in straight sets Thursday afternoon at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
Golovin and Richardson defeated the country’s No. 24 pairing of Ulyana Grib and Maryna Veksler of Florida International, 6-4, 6-3, picking up their fourth ranked doubles win of the season.
With the win, Golovin and Richardson became just the third duo in LSU women’s tennis history to advance past the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championships. Bruna Colosio and Ana Paula Mores first accomplished the feat in 2000 and Joana Valle Costa and Ryann Foster advanced all the way to the semifinal round last season, setting a school record for the deepest postseason doubles run.
Golovin and Richardson will return to the courts tomorrow to square off the No. 5-ranked Ole Miss pairing of Arianne Hartono and Alexa Bortles. The time for tomorrow’s match has yet to be determined.
