Richardson Wins Three Titles at Final Prep Meet

Baton Rouge, La. – Future LSU sprinter Sha’carri Richardson led her Carter High School team to a state title last weekend at the UIL 4A State Championships hosted in Austin, Texas, at Mike A. Myers Stadium with an impressive three gold medals.

The star sprinter won gold medals in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and 4×100 meter relay to close out her illustrious prep career. Her three state titles as a senior moved her career state title total to eight. Having won the 100 meter 4A Texas state title in 2016 and 2017, Richardson entered the state meet as the heavy favorite, and she sure did impress. In the finals, she clocked a time of 11.12 seconds to claim the state title, crossing the finish line 45 hundredths of a second before the runner-up. The time of 11.12 seconds would have been a national prep record had it not been for the 3.6 mph tailwind that aided the runners. Her fastest wind-legal time of 11.28 in the 100 meter dash is the ninth fastest to ever be run by a high school sprinter.

In the 200 meter dash, Richardson was the only runner in the field to go sub 24 and she was only three hundredths of a second of going sub 23 with a final time of 23.02 to claim her second-straight state 200 meter dash title. Preceding both of her individual titles, Richardson served as the second leg of Carter’s 4×100 meter relay team that finished first with a time of 46.57.
