Jake Norris Sets British U20 Hammer Throw Record

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU track and field freshman thrower Jake Norris had himself a night to remember on Friday evening at the Bernie Moore Track and Field Stadium. On his fifth hammer throw of the evening, Norris launched the ball and chain 79.55 meters (261 feet) to set the under 20 British record in the event. The mark for Norris is the best throw in the world in the under 20 circuit for 2018.

The mark of 79.55 meters qualifies Norris for the British U20 trials which will take place this June where he will attempt to secure a spot to the 2018 IAAF U20 World Championships in Finland. A native of Windsor, Berkshire, UK, Norris has been a much-welcomed addition to the LSU throwing corps. He scored points for the Tigers at the SEC indoor meet in the weight throw and he currently owns the third-best hammer throw in the NCAA. Norris and the rest of the LSU track and field team will host the first of three home meets this month at the Bernie Moore Track and Field Stadium on Saturday with the Battle on the Bayou.
