Gymnastics Checks in at No. 3 in First RQS Rankings

BATON ROUGE – In the first Regional Qualifying Scores (RQS) rankings of the 2018 college gymnastics season, LSU ranks No. 3 with a team RQS of 197.545, RoadToNationals.com released Monday.

The RQS is ascertained by taking a team’s top six scores – three of which must be from road/neutral meets – dropping the high score and averaging the remaining five scores.

LSU’s meet scores counting toward its RQS are: 198.075 at GymQuarters Invite, 197.575 at Georgia, 197.375 at Metroplex, 198.175 at home against TWU, 197.450 at home against Alabama and 197.250 at Florida.

The squad must drop the 198.175 against TWU as it’s the highest of the six. The remaining scores average out to 197.545 for third in the nation behind Oklahoma and UCLA.

In the event rankings, the squad owns the top spot on bars and floor. LSU is also ranked third on beam and fifth on vault.

LSU has seven gymnasts ranked in the top-25 in at least one event. Both Sarah Finnegan and Myia Hambrick are ranked in the top-25 of all four events and all-around. Hambrick is the No. 1 performer on floor and ranked No. 5 in the all-around. Finnegan owns the second spot on bars and in the all-around as well as fourth on beam.

The third-ranked Tigers return to the Maravich Center at 2:30 p.m. Sunday to take on No. 15 Auburn. LSU, which has already clinched a share of the SEC regular season championship, can win the title outright for a second straight year with the win over Auburn.
