Blake and Humphrey Awarded Weekly SEC Honors

BATON ROUGE, La. – After their performances at the LSU Twilight, freshman JuVaughn Blake and sophomore Brittley Humphrey were respectively crowned men’s freshman and women’s runner of the week by the SEC office today.

In just his second collegiate long jump competition, Blake notched a personal-best distance of 25′ 7.5” (7.81m) and earned the event title. Blake was an inch shy of eclipsing his previous best by an entire foot, and his efforts tie him for the 12th-best mark in the nation according to TFRRS.

Sophomore Brittley Humphrey also won her first event title of the season in the women’s 60-meter hurdles. Humphrey’s time of 8.18 seconds was .02 shy of her lifetime-best, and she has qualified for the finals in all six opportunities this season. She swept the event as well with the top preliminary time of all competitors.

Blake and Humphrey will aim to use this momentum to propel them to the top of the leaderboards this weekend at the SEC Championships, running February 24 through February 25. Gilliam Stadium will host the conference’s best athletes in College Station, Texas.
