LSU to Host Purple and Gold Scrimmage Saturday
BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU Beach Volleyball team will host its annual Purple Gold Scrimmage this Saturday from 10-12:30 p.m. CT at Mango’s Beach Volleyball Club off of Sherwood Forest in Baton Rouge.
Following the scrimmage, the team will host a free beach volleyball clinic for kids of all ages until 2 p.m. CT. Season posters will be given away on Saturday and the team will be available for autographs.
With the start of the season one week away, this is an opportunity for the team to get experience in a competitive atmosphere.
“It’s a critical part in our preparation,” said head coach Russell Brock. “We do it every year and it’s always really valuable for putting our players in a position that will simulate an actual match environment.
“It’s a great opportunity to give our fans a sneak peak of what our season is going to look like.”
Last season was a historic one for the five-year old program, as the Tigers made their first appearance at the NCAA Championships, following a 23-match win streak. The team returns 14 girls from last year’s squad and has added some impactful players as well.
Every year, the clinic gives the team the opportunity to connect with the community and show the fans what they mean to the Tigers.
“Any kids that want to come out, get some training and interact personally with our team, they’ll get that opportunity,” said Brock. “Our players look forward to the clinic and we’re excited to be able to put it on once again.”
LSU will begin its season next weekend at the Grand Canyon University Beach Tournament, where they will compete against Cal Poly, GCU, Pepperdine and Nebraska.
The first home matches of the season will be held on the weekend of March 24th when the Tigers will have five matches throughout the course of two days.
