Moore Named First Team Academic All-America

BATON ROUGE – LSU tight end John David Moore has been named to the prestigious 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, the organization announced on Thursday. The team is selected annually by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Moore, a senior from Ruston, Louisiana, currently maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point average in architecture where he’s on pace to become the first LSU football player to graduate with a degree in that curriculum in over 25 years.

Moore becomes the first LSU player to earn first team Academic All-America status since Rudy Niswanger earned the award in 2005.

“I’m honored to be named to this prestigious to team,” Moore said. “It’s a culmination of a lot of hard work on and off the field. This type of recognition wouldn’t be possible without the support of a great academic center staff and the professors and staff in the school of architecture.

“I’m happy to represent LSU with this honor as it validates hard work in pursuing a great degree along with being part of such a successful football program.”

Moore has been named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll three times and he’s twice been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

On the field, Moore has been a three-year starter at both fullback and tight end for the Tigers. In four years at LSU, Moore has been part of four bowl games and helped the Tigers to a combined record of 34-15. For his career, Moore has caught 19 passes for 128 yards and two TDs.
