Soccer's Alex Thomas Earns All-Region Selection

BATON ROUGE – LSU junior Alex Thomas certainly proved herself as one of the top strikers in the Southeastern Conference this fall, and she was honored Tuesday for her performance with a selection to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s All-Southeast Region Third Team for the 2017 season.

Thomas closed the campaign as LSU’s leading scorer with a career-high eight goals and 18 points while also netting a team-best three game-winning goals as the leader of the Tiger attack this fall.

United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Teams Announced

Thomas was fast out of the blocks with goals in four of her first six starts to open the season, highlighted by the match-winner on the stroke of halftime in LSU’s 1-0 home win over No. 19-ranked Cincinnati on Sept. 14. She helped the Tigers equal their best ever start to a season with seven-straight wins as she also found the scoresheet in wins over Colgate, Lamar and Austin Peay during the non-conference season.

She carried that momentum into the SEC season while adding another four goals to her total in conference play, including her first career mutli-goal game with both goals in a 2-2 draw with Mississippi State on Sept. 24 followed by the winner in LSU’s 2-1 win over Georgia on Oct. 5 for its first league victory of the season. Thomas made it three games in four with a goal in conference play when she also scored at nationally-ranked Ole Miss late in the SEC season.

Thomas will certainly be one of the top-scoring Tigers to return to the pitch in 2018 as she has now scored 10 career goals in an LSU shirt along with six assists since first taking the field as a freshman in 2015. A two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection majoring in biology, Thomas also counts a selection to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2015 among her accolades.
