Von Rosenberg SEC Special Teams Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE – Redshirt freshman punter Zach Von Rosenberg has been named the Southeastern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in LSU’s 30-10 win over Tennessee on Saturday.

Von Rosenberg, who prepped at Zachary High School and later played professional baseball, averaged 49.2 yards on five punts. Two of his booming punts resulted in fumbles by Tennessee – one leading to a LSU field goal and a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and the other to a TD and a 10-3 advantage for the Tigers in the second quarter.

The left-footer’s fourth punt of the game carried a career-long 60 yards and pinned the Vols inside their own 5-yard line. That 60-yard punt flipped the field position, and after a three-and-out by the Vols, LSU needed only four plays to extend its lead to 17-3.

For the game, the 27-year old Von Rosenberg had three of his five punts downed inside the 20-yard line.

In his first season of action for the Tigers, Von Rosenberg has punted 32 times and is averaging 43.3 yards a punt. He’s had four punts travel 50 yards or more and 10 downed inside the 20-yard line.
