Gymnastics Comes Together for Intrasquad

BATON ROUGE – For the third time this fall, the LSU gymnastics team came together for a full intrasquad in preparation for the season and put together a strong show Friday afternoon at the Gymnastics Training Facility.

The Tigers took another positive step toward 2018 with a 197-plus score. The squad will be on full display for Gym 101 at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11 inside the Maravich Center.
Labeled a “Gymnastics Showcase,” Gym 101 will provide fans a first look at the 2018 Tigers who will perform routines on all four events.

Admission to the event is free to the public and season ticket holders will have the opportunity to pick up their Holy Cow t-shirts for attending the meet. Season tickets for 2018 are selling fast as the program quickly approaches 5,000 season ticket holders for the first time in school history.

“I really liked how our team responded with another 197,” head coach D-D Breaux said. “We really made it hard on them and challenged the group with a shorter warmup. Of course we expect our returning big scorers to produce and the key is consistency for everyone. Sarah Finnegan, Lexie Priessman, Kennedi Edney, Ruby Harrold, McKenna Kelley and Myia Hambrick did not disappoint today.”

Finnegan shined as the leadoff performer on vault with a 9.90 and Harrold nailed her fourth spot with a 9.95. Once again the depth of the Tigers’ bar lineup showed off with eight performers. Priessman, the reigning SEC bars champion, and Finnegan, the 2017 NCAA bars champion, totaled scores of 9.95 in the fifth and sixth spot of the lineup.

On beam, Ashlyn Kirby, Christina Desiderio, Julianna Cannamela, Priessman and Finnegan performed strong routines. The squad closed out the afternoon on floor with Hambrick totaling a 9.925 and Kelley scoring a 9.95.

“We are just continuing to build depth for the season,” Breaux added. “I really like where our team is right now. We have a great freshman class and Rheagan Campbell, Sarah Edwards, Desiderio and Sami Durante are newcomers to watch.”

LSU will host six home meets in the Maravich Center in 2018, starting with Southeastern Conference foe Arkansas. The Tigers will also take on Alabama, Kentucky, Texas Woman’s, Auburn and Arizona.

Fans can follow the Tigers on the team’s social media channels: @LSUgym on Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat, and at
