Dorsey to Represent LSU as 2017 SEC Legend

BATON ROUGE – LSU great Glenn Dorsey – the only four-time national award winner in school history – has been selected to the 2017 Southeastern Conference Football Legends class, the league office announced on Tuesday.

The 2017 Football Legends Class includes 14 former stars who excelled on the gridiron and helped write the rich history of the sport at their respective institutions. This year’s class includes All-Americans, All-SEC selections and Academic All-Americans. The group represents teams that won National and SEC Championships and are represented in state, school and college football halls of fame.

The class, a collection of former football standouts, will be honored at the 2017 SEC Football “Weekend of Champions” Dec. 1-2 in Atlanta, Ga. The annual SEC Legends Dinner will be held Fri., Dec. 1 at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta and the group will also be recognized prior to the SEC Football Championship Game, which will be held at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sat., Dec. 2.

Dorsey is the most decorated defensive player in LSU history, claiming the Lombardi, Outland, Nagurski and Lott Trophies as a senior in 2007. Dorsey remains the only player in LSU history to claim each of these honors.

“This honor means the world to me and to be honest, it has really left me speechless,” Dorsey said. “To grow up an LSU fan and then coming here and being part of a national championship, it’s a dream come true. It’s humbling and such a tremendous honor. But of course, none of this would have been possible without great teammates and coaches. I can honestly say that some of the best years of my life were spent at LSU.”

A two-time first-team All-American as both a junior and senior, Dorsey opted to return to LSU for his senior season despite being projected as a first-round NFL draft pick following his junior campaign. He led the Tigers to the SEC and National Championship in 2007.

He finished his LSU career by playing in 52 games for the Tigers with 31 starts while totaling 179 tackles – including 27 for losses – and 13 quarterback sacks despite being double and sometimes triple-teamed as both a junior and senior.

Dorsey was chosen with the fifth overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2008 NFL Draft, becoming the 31st player in LSU history to be selected in the first round. In his eight-year NFL career that included stops with the 49ers and Chiefs, Dorsey played in 104 games, starting 92 times. He finished his NFL career with 225 tackles and 7.0 sacks.

Dorsey, along with the rest of his 2007 national champion teammates will be honored during halftime of Saturday’s game against Auburn in Tiger Stadium.
