Volleyball Hosts Kid's Clinic, Bump up the Jam

BATON ROUGE— The LSU volleyball team hosted its annual Kid’s Clinic and its annual student volleyball tournament Bump up the Jam this past weekend.

“Our team is committed to giving back to the community,” head coach Fran Flory said. “We value every opportunity to give back to the Baton Rouge community and to our LSU family.”

Kids in eighth grade and below fill the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Saturday for a two-hour clinic with the volleyball coaching staff and team members. More than 150 children of all experience levels were able to learn and practice their volleyball skills. Following the clinic, many of the participants stayed to watch the Tigers compete in their annual Purple & Gold Scrimmage.

“The Kid’s Clinic is a critical part of our program as we share our love for this great sport,” Flory said.  “We had an amazing turn-out, the kids were great and we all had a great time.  We look forward to having all of the families at our matches this Fall.”

Participants of the clinic are invited back to the Maravich Center for the 2017 home opener on Saturday, September 16 against Houston at 1 p.m. CT where there will be a camp reunion.

On Sunday, the volleyball team hosted its second annual Bump up the Jam, a free student tournament hosted in partnership with LSU Athletics.

The tournament is not only a celebration of the beginning of the school year, as classes begin Monday, August 21, but it is also a time for LSU students to become acquainted with the volleyball team.

Teams of four students competed on the LSU Parade Grounds, and there were numerous prizes and giveaways, with the top team winning 2017 LSU football home student season tickets.

“Bump up the Jam provides an opportunity for our players to interact with students on campus and once again share our great sport,” Flory said. “The field was super competitive this year, which made it an even better event.  It was a great afternoon for all.”

The Tigers open the season Friday, August 25 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Tampa, Florida at 3 p.m. for the USF Invitational. Fans can follow the match on Twitter and Facebook, @LSUvolleyball.
