BATON ROUGE, La. — Fresh off of a comeback victory over Ole Miss, the 15th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team (13-4, 2-1 SEC) returns to action at 11 a.m. Sunday against No. 28 Mississippi State (10-3, 1-2 SEC) at the LSU Tennis Complex.

“I think it’s great to get the first win of the weekend and carry momentum into the second match,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “It was a close match last year and we are expecting the same thing on Sunday. They’re a much improved team. Everyone in the SEC is so tough so we have to rest up and be ready to play.”

Down 1-3 with three courts remaining against Ole Miss, Abby Owens, Jessica Golovin and Ryann Foster closed out the match to earn the victory for LSU. Owens began the rally with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 win on five.

Golovin  evened the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory on two. Foster closed out the match with a win. After dropping the first set, Foster ultimately won 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 on court four.

Foster is now a perfect 14-0 this spring between courts three and four. The transfer has won her last 16 matches dating back to the fall.

Owens has impressed for the Lady Tigers with her play. The Duluth, Georgia native owns a 12-3 record overall and 10-3 mark on court five. Owens leads the team with a 3-0 record in the SEC.

The Bulldogs head to Baton Rouge after a 5-2 loss at the hands of No. 14 Texas A&M. Mississippi State features three singles players ranked, including Jasmine Lee who is ranked ninth and holds an 8-3 record this spring.

The Bulldogs feature a stout doubles lineup with all three teams ranked. Madison Harrison and Georgiana Patrasc lead with the way with a ranking of 34.

LSU leads the all-time series 29-10 and has won eight of the last 10 matches. The Lady Tigers haven’t lost to the Bulldogs in Baton Rouge since 2005. Last season, LSU defeated Mississippi State, 4-2, behind Ella Taylor‘s clinch.
