Celaya-Hernandez Receives Diver of the Week Honors
BATON ROUGE, La.- For the second time this season, freshman diver Juan Celaya-Hernandez was selected as the SEC Male Diver of the Week after his performance at the Mizzou Diving Invite the SEC office announced Tuesday.
Over the weekend at the Mizzou Aquatic Center, Celaya-Hernandez took first place on three-meter, posting a final score of 418.75 to lead the charge. On platform, he earned his second-straight first-place finish after scoring 424.30 for the second-highest score in school history. Celaya-Hernandez also finished with a 367.85 on one-meter, securing second place overall.
“Juan had an excellent three day competition at the Missouri Diving Invite,” said head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “He came very close to sweeping the events, and he has made great strides and progress with fine tuning his competitive lists. We’re proud he’s been recognized in this manner.”
On the year, Celaya-Hernandez has compiled four individual wins in five events. He holds the school and pool record on three-meter after scoring a 431.80 to break the school record in his debut collegiate performance against Auburn. He also took first on one-meter at the dual meet, placing him at second on LSU’s all-time list with a score of 392.85.
