COLUMBIA, Mo. – On the final day of the Mizzou Diving Invite, Juan Celaya dominated the competition on platform, tallying his second-straight first-place finish after scoring an impressive 424.30 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. Celaya’s score is the second-highest in school history behind Michael Neubacher.

“I couldn’t be happier with our performances today and over the course of this competition,” said head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “Today, with a head cold, Juan competed very well, securing the win over the competition by more than 40 points and was just shy of the school record.

Matt Phillip also scored a personal best on the day, garnering a third-place finish with a score of 377.70, besting his previous score to stay at fourth on the all-time list. Matt McClellan took ninth overall, improving his personal best to 276.70 on platform.

For the women, Rileigh Knox tied for eighth overall, finishing with a score of 221.95. Lizzie Cui took 13th place, posting a finish of 204.75 to wrap up the weekend for the diving squad.

“Rileigh and Lizzie competed well and have made great strides in their platform development,” said Shaffer. “As a yardstick, this competition provided some very positive performances on all levels while mapping out the details we need to fine tune. I’m very excited with this team moving forward.”
