Men's Golf Alums Advance in Web.com Q School

BATON ROUGE – Three former LSU golfers took a big step toward earning their Web.com Tour status for the 2017 season on Friday as Ken Looper, Ben Taylor and Zach Wright each advanced to the Web.com Tour Q School Finals in December by finishing among the Top 18 in their respective second stage tournaments.

The top-18 finishers and ties from two second stage qualifying sites in Florida at both Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville and Plantation Preserve Golf Club in Plantation earned their position in the Web.com Tour Q School Finals that are scheduled to run Dec. 8-11 at Orange County National Country Club in Winter Garden, Florida.

Taylor, who competed on the Mackenzie Tour in Canada as a rookie professional in 2016, fired 12-under par in 72 holes in the second stage at Plantation Preserve to finish in sole possession of second place.

Taylor’s final score of 272 was just two shots back of champion Lanto Griffin at the top of the leaderboard with a winning score of 14-under par. Taylor fired scores of 2-under 69 in the first and third rounds and 4-under 67 in the second and final rounds to take another step toward earning his Web.com Tour status for 2017.

Looper was one of three golfers to finish in a tie for second place after 72 holes at Southern Hills Plantation as he matched Michael Johnson and Seth Reeves with a score of 11-under par 277 to finish three strokes back of Justin Hueber with a winning total of 14-under par. Looper posted rounds of 1-under 71, 5-under 67, 3-under 69 and 2-under 70 to secure his qualification.

Wright overcame his 2-over 74 in Friday’s final round at Southern Hills Plantation to advance by a single shot as he tied six other golfers for 18th place in the final standings at 6-under par 282 for 72 holes. Wright teed off in the final round inside the Top 10 of the leaderboard after firing a 3-under 69 on Tuesday, a 4-under 68 on Wednesday and a 1-under 71 on Thursday to sit 8-under par after 54 holes.

A field of approximately 144 golfers plus ties from the second qualifying stage will compete in the Web.com Tour Q School Finals while looking to earn their Web.com Tour status for the 2017 season.

The winner and ties of the Web.com Tour Q School Finals will earn exempt status for the entire 2017 season and from periodic reorder. Competitors finishing through the 10th position and ties will receive exemption to the Web.com Tour through the third periodic reorder in 2017, while those following through 45th place and ties will be exempt through the second periodic reorder.
