Doubles Duos Advance to SEC Classic Finals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.— Two LSU men’s tennis pairs advanced to Saturday’s doubles finals in the SEC Coaches Classic at the Alabama Tennis Center.

In the Andy Solis draw, senior Justin Butsch and freshman Agie Moreno put together back-to-back 8-4 wins against Auburn’s Max Hinnisdaels and Carles Sarrio and Ole Miss’ Filip Kraljevic and Tim Sandkaulen.

Junior Gabor Csonka and freshman Julian Saborio also pieced together consecutive 8-6 wins against Arkansas’ Juan Marino and Adam Sanjurjo and Florida’s Jordan Belga and Joseph Guillin to advance to the Ellis Ferreira draw finals.

The duos begin finals competition Saturday at 9 a.m. CT, and two rounds of singles play will follow beginning at 10 a.m. CT.

Three Tigers advanced in the Francisco Rodriguez singles draw. Butsch took a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win against Kentucky’s Alex Dominguez. Moreno defeated Auburn’s Max Hinnisdaels 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, and freshman Rafael Wagner defeated Auburn’s Dante Saleh, 6-3, 6-4.

After starting with a first round bye, Saborio won a straight set, 6-2, 6-2, match against Hayes Brewer of Alabama in the John Stimpson main draw.

“It was a great job from the doubles teams to get two teams through to finals in their respective draws,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “It was also nice to see Justin Butsch closer to form and watch Agie, Rafael and Cameron put together good wins as well.”

Sophomore Cameron Andry began the day with a gritty 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 win against Arkansas’ Austin Rables before falling, 1-6, 2-6, in the second round of the John Stimpson main draw to Kentucky’s Jake Stefanike.

In the Jeff Robinson Draw, Csonka fell to Alabama’s Spencer Richey after retiring to an injury, and Nikola Samardzic suffered a 1-6, 4-6 loss to South Carolina’s Harrison O’Keefe.
