LSU Employee Assistance Fund Established
BATON ROUGE – At the request of the President F. King Alexander, the Baton Rouge Area Foundation has established the LSU Employee Assistance Fund to help LSU employees who are affected by disasters and hardships such as the recent flood.
“While the LSU campus was relatively untouched, many of our Tiger family suffered ruinous damage to their homes. Employees and students’ lives are in upheaval. We have a duty to help them, and I am asking all Tigers everywhere to join together in support of our LSU community,” Alexander said.
Those wishing to donate to the Employee Assistance Fund can visit http://www.employees1st.org/lsu or more information.
LSU previously established the Student Disaster Relief Fund for students directly impacted by the flood. Donations to the Student Disaster Relief Fund can be made online at www.lsufoundation.org/floodrelief.
Both sites are accessible through http://lsu.edu/floodrelief. LSU has an established food pantry and laundry service and also provided complimentary dinner service courtesy of LSU Dining/Chartwells. LSU employees can also donate extra leave time to fellow employees affected by the flood via the Flood Relief website.
In addition, the LSU Registrar’s Office will reprint, free of charge, any LSU diploma that was lost in the recent flooding. To request a new diploma, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 225-578-2105.
“The LSU Board of Supervisors is supporting the appeal effort from the local to the international level. We feel that we have to do something quickly to help our employees and students in this critical time of need,” said LSU Board Chairman Ray Lasseigne. LSU has established the LSU Employee Assistance Fund through the Baton Rouge Area Foundation’s Employees 1st program, a pre-existing process that will help expedite the availability of flood relief funds to impacted LSU employees while complying with IRS regulations regarding employer assistance to employees. Employees 1st, a partner of several large local employers, grew out of BRAF’s efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to provide short-term financial assistance to workers who are coping with catastrophic difficulties.
