Cui is New Zealand’s first Olympic diver in 24 years and just the country’s sixth diver selected to participate. The Auckland native is also the second diver in school history and the 15th swimmer or diver to compete in the Olympics.
“I’m going to be on the edge of my seat,” said LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer on his first Olympian. “I’m wishing Lizzie nothing but positive thoughts for being in the moment and doing what she knows how to do.”
Cui achieved early success at LSU in her first semester, qualifying for the NCAA Championships on the one-meter and three-meter. Cui finished 14th on three-meter to earn NCAA Honorable Mention All-America honors.
