Harrold, Great Britain Advance to Olympics Final

RIO DE JANEIRO – LSU gymnastics freshman Ruby Harrold and the Great Britain Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Olympic team advanced to the team final after finishing fourth with an overall score of 174.064 during qualification Sunday at the Rio Olympic Arena.

Elissa Downie, Rebecca Downie, Claudia Fragapane, Amy Tinkler and Harrold will represent Great Britain in the final at 2 p.m. CT Tuesday. Fans can watch all of the action at nbcolympics.com.

In the first rotation, Harrold tallied a score of 14.800 on uneven bars for 19th overall. The Bristol, England native followed with a score of 13.633 for 35th on floor. Harrold closed out the afternoon qualification with a score of 14.600 on vault.

After her routine on the uneven bars in the first rotation, Harrold became the first LSU gymnast to compete at the Olympics since Shanyn MacEachern represented Canada at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

Harrold also became the fourth LSU gymnast to compete at the games, joining MacEachern, Jennifer Wood and Larissa Lowing. Wood and Lowing also represented Canada in 1992 and 1988 respectively.
