Fournette Earns Spot on Doak Walker Watch List

BATON ROUGE – LSU junior running back Leonard Fournette was selected to the Doak Walker Award Watch List for the second consecutive season, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Thursday.

Last season Fournette was one of three finalists for the award that is presented to the nation’s top college running back each year.

A New Orleans, Louisiana native, Fournette was a consensus First-Team All-American in 2015 after he tied or set eight LSU single-season records as a sophomore.

The only player in LSU history to rush for 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons, Fournette shattered the LSU single-season rushing record by running for 1,953 yards and a school-record 22 touchdowns a year ago.

Fournette became the first Southeastern Conference player to lead the nation in rushing with an average 162.8 yards per game in 2015.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name 10 semifinalists on Nov. 16, and the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will cast votes to determine the three finalists, who will be announced on Nov. 22.

The recipient of the 2016 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 8 on ESPN.
