Fournette Adds FWAA All-America Honor

BATON ROUGE — LSU running back Leonard Fournette added another first team All-America honor to his resume on Monday as he was named to the 2015 AutoNation FWAA All-America Team, the Football Writers Association of America announced.

The honor is the third first team honor for Fournette this year as he’s also been recognized by the Associated Press and Walter Camp.

Also on Monday, Fournette along with three of his LSU teammates were named to the Associated Press All-SEC team. Fournette and offensive tackle Vadal Alexander were named first team All-SEC by the AP, while cornerback Tre’Davious White and Jamal Adams were named to the second team.

Fournette becomes the first LSU running back to earn first team FWAA All-America honors since 1978 when Charles Alexander was named to the squad. He’s also the 10th Tiger to earn first team FWAA All-America honors under Les Miles.

Prior to Miles joining LSU in 2005, LSU had placed 20 players on the FWAA squad since its inception in 1944.

Fournette currently leads the nation in rushing yard per game at 158.3 yards a contest. Fournette broke Alexander’s single-season LSU rushing record this season as he’s accounted for 1,741 yards and 18 touchdowns, which is one shy of tying the school mark.

Fournette and the Tigers return to action on Dec. 29 when LSU faces Texas Tech in the AdvoCare Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium in Houston. Kickoff for the contest is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN.
