Fournette Adds Maxwell POW to List of Honors

BATON ROUGE – Running back Leonard Fournette added a third weekly national award to his collection on Thursday as the sophomore was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week, the Maxwell Football Club announced.

The Maxwell Player of the Week honor comes after Fournette was named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday and the Football Writers’ Association of America National Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Fournette was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, along with Georgia quarterback Greyson Lambert, on Monday. It was the second straight week that Fournette was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

Fournette had arguably the most dominating performance ever for a LSU running back, rushing for a career-best 228 yard and three TDs in the 45-21 victory over Auburn. Fournette averaged 12.0 yards per carry and scored on runs of 40, 29, and 1 yards.

Fournette opened the contest with a 71-yard run on the first play of the game to set the tone for what would be a 411-yard rushing effort for the Tigers. Fournette’s 228 rushing yards was just 23 shy of breaking the school record of 250 held by Alley Broussard (2004 vs. Ole Miss). It also ranks as the seventh-highest single game total in school history.

LSU’s 411 rushing yards rank as the second-highest total in a SEC game in school history.

With 387 yards in two games, Fournette has rushed more yards during the first two weeks of the season than any player in LSU history.
